Tips for Building Caseload as a New Grad

Building a caseload

  • Build a connection with the patients you have
    • sit down and take a moment to speak to them prior to jumping into an assessment or treatment. Actively listen to them and respond to their concerns or history. Find out what truly motivates them and what brought them in. Everyone has more going on than what appears on the surface
  • Leave them with a “quick win”
    • finding something that will improve their symptoms or a way to settle their pain at home can give them some kind of hope that you are able to help them. This can increase buy in by having them understand what you can do to help
  • Educate the patient
    • It can be difficult to trust the process if you don’t know what it is. Take the time to educate the person on what you think is causing their symptoms and how you plan to address it. In educating the patient on what the underlying cause is and what the treatment will look like, you develop a sense of trust and understanding of the process to help the patient buy-in
  • Check in
    • If you are getting cancellations or they are not attending physiotherapy as much as you would like, reach out to them to ask if there are any issues you can address to keep them coming back. They may be busy or have flared up or have concerns that they have not brought up to you and reaching out can show that you care both about them and their well-being
  • Don’t be shy to ask for a review
    • The best way to get people to know about you is to have google reviews that speak to you. If you believe you connected with someone and helped them to achieve their goals, ask if they will add a google review that allows others to see what kind of therapist you are
